Yesterday it snowed and Maria and I were stuck at work due to snow! She actually had to spend the night at work and then had to brave the roads today to drive home! Being a Southern girl, I'm not used to snow at all! The high for today was a whopping 28 degrees! The roads were icy and even walking on the sidewalk was difficult. By the time we left Maria's job in Hoover, most of the main highways and interstates had at least one clear lane on them but many of the on ramps and exit ramps were still iced over. Though there wasn't a lot of snow deposited on the ground, it crippled the entire city because we don't have the proper equipment to handle icy conditions. After Maria and I got back to her house, we decided to walk to the local grocery store to stock up on food because most meteorologists agreed that conditions were supposed to get worse overnight due to the snow melting and refreezing overnight. We had to be careful not to walk on icy patches and only walk in grass or on the soft snow. After leaving Western, the grocery store, we went to deposit the groceries at a friend's house and ate at Jim and Nick's. The restaurant was surprisingly busy for so many people to have been stranded and without cars!
