Adventure at Nabeel's!

Today I decided I wanted to try a new restaurant. My favorite type of food to eat is Mediterranean, so Maria and I decided to use our Urban Spoon App to find a new restaurant. We decided to try Nabeel's Cafe! It's located in Homewood, across from Homewood Park and has a menu full of Greek food. Maria settled for the Gyros Wrap with Greek fries and I ate off of her plate.  The weather was very chilly today, with a high of only 45 degrees so we opted to sit inside rather than on the patio!

Because neither Maria nor I were familiar with the restaurant, we decided to use Google Maps to help us navigate to the restaurant. Google Maps is an app that tells you how to get to different locations and provides various maps of a specific area. It is relatively simple to use, you can either input a specific address or if you don't know the address of the location you're trying to go to, you can type in the name (in this case, "Nabeel's"), and it will search for that location. The app connects with many Social Studies Standards, including but not limited to the Second Grade Standard 6: Identify states, continents, oceans and the equator using maps, globes and technology; First Grade Standard 8: Identify land masses, bodies of water, and other physical features on maps and globes;  and the Third Grade Standard 8: Identify geographic links of land regions, river systems, and interstate highways between Alabama and other states. I predict students could have problems putting the address in correctly if they aren't familiar with writing addresses. I could overcome this problem by instructing students on the characteristics of addresses and the elements that they should always include.
